One approach is to find so-called "broken links" on relevant external websites from which you would like to obtain a backlink. "Broken links" are links that point to a target page that no longer exists. They point to pages that return a 404 or 410 status code. Sometimes, clicking on a link will land you on a specific 404 page, but more often, you'll receive the message "Item not found."

So, here we see pages from the domain "koeln.de" that no longer exist. Most of them link to a specific 404 page, but the actual content of the page is no longer available.
We now look through the list and examine whether there is any content there that fits our website.
